Concrete comparison: IBA vs LUMS

So, now after a general comparison between theses two business schools now i will compare them on certain criteria.

If one asks about LUMS fauclty then its one of the best in Asia. IBA is not bad. But definitely here LUMS is better than IBA. In HEC ranking LUMS has been given more points for faculty. IBA does have some of excellent teachers from Cambridge, MIT,Harvard but in general its not better than LUMS.

In terms of students IBA has much more hardworking and brilliant students than LUMS. In HEC ranking IBA students are given more points than LUMS. If u see different competitions around the world then it can be seen quite clearly that participation of IBA students is much more and better than LUMS.

As far as facilities are concerned LUMS is better than IBA. But none the less IBA is doing concerted efforts under Mr. Ishrat Hussain to upgrade its facilities so as to meet the international standards. It has a vast land at its main campus in karachi university. So, its a matter of years that it would be converted into a university with excellent sports and recreational facilities.

On the whole IBA does lag behind LUMS but i am sure in few years time IBA would be better than LUMS and even better than many other universities in Asia.

  1. Let me shed some light on the issue which you raised about the hardworking of IBA vs LUMS students. One can reasonable assume as IBA students more participation in the competition around the world, therefore they are more better in hard work as to LUMS.
I would say that this criteria is incomplete to judge the potential of students. LUMS student do not participate in competitions because of reason that they do not find much time from their daily routine of study. Since it's a case base method business school, so students have to prepare at least two cases per day on average along with 8 hours of busy class schedule daily. Those who have ever been to case base method would definitely know that it takes easily 3 or more than 3 hours to read the case and for its thorough analysis. As a matter of fact IBA students get free at around 1:00pm, I have heard.
All these facts surely point to one thing that IBA students generally have much more time to avail this luxury of taking participation into competition. While LUMS students put at least 14 hours a day on average (reading around 100 pages every day). That has been the critical reason for LUMINITES for not being able to participate in the competition.
The need of these activities have been critically recognized by the general bodies of LUMS. Because of which there are now many competition arranged by LUMS students every year.

The above mentioned is just a LUMS perspective, but I strongly believe that there should be many many prosperous educational institutes in our country and I am really proud to have IBA in Pakistan. Indeed this institute is pioneer in business schools outside North America. I think that student body has very important and crucial role in making an institution better, therefore we should take a lead in our respective areas to prove the worth of our institutes. Surely by having healthy competition, we can not only achieve the goal of having quality education all across Pakistan, but this is also another way of contributing towards the better future of our next generation.

  2. I do not understand. Where did anyone get this information that lums students do not participate in international competitions. What competitions are we talking about here? What places are we talking about? What types of competititions? Without these this is nothing more than a general assertion without ever looking at specifics which makes this polemic, and a bad one at best.

For the information of anyone concerned, yes Lums does compete in many international competitions, something it is unique for Pakistani Universities.

But most importantly, the assertion that IBA students are much more brilliant and hard working is a ludicrous assumption. Anyone who bandies about the HEC rankings as proof of superiority shows their own foolishness. Look into the rankings and understand what they used to judge and what that means. Because if it is to be the simple who has the higher points, then the Agricultural University of Faisalabad does better than both.
